Types of Consultations
(Let's do amazing things together!)
This would be the 10 hours of consultation that you must have before you can be considered Basic Trained. Most times your 10 hours are included in your EMDR Basic Training and these hours are usually completed in a group format.
There are instances however, where these 10 mandatory hours are not included and you may need seek a consultant independent of your basic trainer. You may also need to clarify with the Trainer that the Approved Consultant you choose is someone they are in alignment with before you seek it as your Trainer must issue your certificate.
If you choose to pursue Certification with EMDRIA you can do the following to obtain your 20 hours of consultation:
10 hours of group consultation (with an Approved Consultant or a CIT) and
5 hours with a Consultant-In-Training (CIT) and
5 with an Approved Consultant
15 individual hours with a CIT and
5 hours with an Approved Consultant
A full 20 hours with an Approved Consultant which may look like:
10 hours of group and 10 individual hours
20 individual hours
Many people usually end up with more than 20 hours overall.
If you are a Consultant-in-Training (CIT) you need your 20 hours to be facilitated by an Approved Consultant only. You may have more than one consultant, but it is best if you have at least 5 hours with each so they can have a fair understanding of your skills strengths and areas for improvement. You can also complete your hours in a group format specifically geared toward CITs.
